Self-confidence for children
Self-confidence creates results
Self-confidence is your child’s inner faith in own abilities and skills. It is beliefs and attitudes expressed in terms like:
“I am courageous”. “I make an impact”. “I am clever”. “I am good at … (playing football, sailing, sewing, winning people over, lead a group, make speeches, take tests ….)”. When your child’s self-confidence is high your child is able to accomplish a lot and your child can be very successful if your child’s self-confidence is combined with a high self-worth.
Children with high self-confidence do well both in school and outside of school.
A low self-confidence does the opposite:
I am a coward; I let others control me; I can’t drive a nail in a wall without damaging hammer, nail and the wall; I can’t think of any sports I am good at etc etc ……
A healthy self-confidence is a huge advantage but only if your child’s self-esteem is equally healthy.
If your child only possesses a high self-confidence but not a correspondingly high self-worth your child can run into problems and do more damage than good. Imagine that you are very sure of your own abilities to accomplish lots of things, but then imagine that you only do this so you prove that you are “good enough”, “wanted” or “loved”. Now the joy of the accomplishment is gone and you may even step on others to feed your own ambition.
